Under the motto "Hydrogen goes real - How can hydrogen projects become reality?" 85 representatives from industry, associations and politics from Central Hesse met on Wednesday. The aim was to bring together the different players in the industry and discuss current issues, developments and problems.

Hydrogen plays an important role in the current climate debate. It is considered to be a climate-friendly all-rounder, since hydrogen can be obtained from renewable energy sources and can also be converted into electricity without producing emissions. According to Oliver Eich of the Hesse State Energy Agency, the demand for hydrogen in the districts of Marburg-Biedenkopf, Gießen and the Lahn-Dill district will increase from about 0.6 TWh at present to about 2.7 TWh of hydrogen in 2045. Hydrogen is needed for industry as well as for the transport sector, the building sector and climate-friendly energy production and storage.

At the meeting in Grünberg, questions were therefore discussed about how a hydrogen infrastructure can be built, what role hydrogen can play in the current heating debate or also in local public transport, and what safety aspects need to be considered in hydrogen production and processing.

District Administrator Anita Schneider stressed that it is important to find enough actors to participate in the implementation of the hydrogen strategy. The meeting is therefore only the beginning for her.

Head of Corporate Development at Bender and host of the event Roman Schmattloch said: The need for the large-scale use of hydrogen technologies is there. Hydrogen can only become established holistically. Therefore, solutions are needed that are technically, economically, ecologically, politically and socially sustainable.

The invitation was extended by the districts of Gießen and Marburg-Biedenkopf and the Grünberg-based company Bender, which offers solutions for electrical safety and thus contributes to making the production of green hydrogen and renewable energies process-safe and more efficient.
